This visualization is a simulation used in the Habitable Worlds course. The visualization demonstrates the phase change diagram for water, carbon dioxide, and methane on Earth, the Moon, Mercury, Venus, and Mars. Users can modify the pressure and temperature of each planetary body to investigate their impact on the phase diagram.
In this visualization, novice educators can use the simulation as is. Advanced authors may also modify the interface or build trap states to check the sim environment for specific settings: - Turn features off - Investigate specific materials - Investigate specific planets
1. Choose to embed the visualization into an existing Torus lesson or to start a new lesson. 2. Click on the initial state to insert and test the CAPI listed in the CAPI table to begin investigating how they affect the simulation. 3. Begin building your lesson.
Features are called CAPI (Control Application Programming Interface). You can use this CAPI to set the visualization to start with specific functions on or off, force particular views, and also use them to design trap states, which check for correct or incorrect responses. For the full list of CAPI available for this visualization, visit the CAPI table linked in the Information panel on the left hand side of your screen.
There are three ways to teach with this visualization. Select the option that best fits the needs of you and your learners.
