What You Need to Know

With the close of this most interesting year, we wanted to make you aware of some changes in the technology realm that may impact you over the next few months. Don’t worry, the Infiniscope learning experiences will still function and you’ll still be able to enroll students and access analytics.

So, what’s changing?

ASU will be hosting these lessons while we migrate them to a new authoring platform over this next year. This means SmartSparrow will be moving all of the lessons and their data from their servers to a server at ASU.

Also on the horizon is the end of life for Adobe Flash.  It will be deprecated at the end of the year and will no longer run in browsers after Jan 12, 2021. This will affect the authoring tool only. See below for details.

A: Yes, we expect that all of the Infiniscope learning experiences will continue to work  without interruption. To assist you in planning for your classes,  we will notify you ASAP on the dates for the short network outage during transition from Smart Sparrow to ASU servers.

A: In the coming months, the tool we have been using to migrate Infiniscope content will be made available to our network users. It’s not a perfect transfer so your lesson(s) will likely need some clean-up before they can be deployed with students. If you would like to transfer a lesson, please fill out this form by end of day on Sunday, January 10, 2021 so we can have the necessary information to perform the transfer.

A: Yes, not only will you be able to build new lessons, but we have also been working on a tool that will allow you to create virtual tours! We’ll need a bit of time to get these things up and running. The Flash plug-in that the authoring platform uses will no longer function after Jan 12, 2021. We anticipate that the new authoring tool that we are building will be ready in the Spring. So, for the first quarter of 2021, authoring will not be available. When it first becomes available, it will have limited functionality with features being added throughout the year.

A: Even after Flash sunsets, the Smart Sparrow workspace with data and analytics will continue to work, however any student data collected prior to the transition of Smart Sparrow to ASU will be deleted unless you have completed this form. If you submitted your information prior to Monday, January 11, 2021, your data and analytics was saved. When we transition to the new platform, you will have full access to the data and analytics they offer, but old data will disappear during that transition.

A: If you would like to continue to access data that was previously obtained, you will need to request a transfer of the lesson or class from which it was collected. If you have submitted this form  prior to Monday, January 11, 2021, your data and analytics was saved. You can only submit a request for a lesson that you own. If you do not own the lesson, the data will disappear as will the lesson and any enrollments you have made using it.

A: If you have customized lessons that you would like to continue to use OR if you would like to preserve previously collected student data, you will need to have completed this form prior to Monday, January 11, 2021. If that doesn’t apply to you, then sit back and relax and we will take care of the rest.
